Medical benefits & costs

Cost changes for certain benefits

Health care costs continue to rise nationally, so you will still see contribution rate increases. However, by making the change to UHC, we are securing plan contribution rates that are lower than what they would have been had we maintained our previous health care carriers.

Below are some tips on how we can manage costs, both as employees and as a company:

As employees:As a company:
  • Stay healthy

  • Be a good health care shopper

  • Get regular preventive care

  • Manage chronic conditions

  • Control stress

  • Stay in-network

  • Use Centers of Excellence

  • Take your meds!

  • Actively negotiate for the best prices, networks and coverage

  • Continue to look for ways to innovate

  • Tailor coverage to employee needs

  • Manage risk

  • Make cost-conscious decisions

  • Educate our employees on how to optimize plan utilization

Preventive care

When it comes to your health, there’s no such thing as starting too early. Preventive care includes the services you get as part of your routine wellness exam. Most health plans cover eligible preventive care services at 100% with no deductible, which means you’ll pay $0 out of pocket. Preventive care includes annual physical care exams, certain vaccines, well-baby and well-child care visits, recommended cancer tests and screenings and other health screenings for things like osteoporosis and diabetes.
